Below are organizations, groups and contact information for more specific ways that you can serve outside of Elizabethtown, both regionally and globally!

 

Disaster Relief and Response

In disaster related ministry, preparation and flexibility are the keys.  Volunteers in Mission, known as VIM teams, are the backbone of disaster response and relief in the United Methodist Church.  They usually work in the recovery phase after a disaster takes place.  Our Eastern Pennsylvania Conference provides the needed training.

  • Serve on a mission trip as a VIM
  • Sign-up for additional training for an Early Response Team or an Emotional and Spiritual Care Team

A ministry that delivers dresses and hope to girls in need and at risk around the world.

GAiN - Global Aid Network

Global Logistics Center based in Mount Joy that operates year-round in receiving, processing, packing and shipping humanitarian aid to places around the globe.

  • Complete sewing projects at home or at the center
  • Participate in work weeks held twice a year for multi-day work projects
  • Participate in a missions trip abroad

Habitat for Humanity, Lancaster-Lebanon

Join us as we bring people together to build homes, community and hope.  Our organization builds, renovates and repairs homes for families.  There are many ways to volunteer and all skill levels are welcome.

  • Participate as an individual or as a small group in building or renovating a home

Heart and Hand, West Virginia

Each year in mid-July, there is a week-long mission trip from St. Paul's United Methodist to Heart and Hand in Philippi, WV.  The goal of these trips is to improve housing conditions for people living in one of the poorest counties in the state.

  • Help as a skilled worker - basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical work
  • Help as an unskilled worker - assist skilled workers, help in the Thrift Shop managed by Heart and Hands
  • Cook for the week

Helping Hands, Harrisburg

Join the groups of youth and adults who go to Grace United Methodist in Harrisburg on the third Sunday of the month.  To help local neighborhood friends that come to Grace United Methodist for breakfast, basic clothes and supplies.

  • 6:00AM Group - cooks breakfast: eggs, hashbrowns, sausages, cutting bagels, making coffee and setting up the dining room.
  • 7:00AM Group - serves breakfast, cleans up, sorts supplies and clothes in the clothing room and assembles hygiene kits.

LUMINA

The Lancaster United Methodist Inner-City Alliance (LUMINA) is an United Methodist ministry which offers the impoverished the light of hope: to encourage children and youth through Christian character building, to empower families through life-skill education, and to equip those in need with basic necessities and proper clothing for work and school.

  • Volunteer for Kids Night held on Mondays from 6-8:00PM at New Creation United Methodist Church in Lancaster
  • Assist with cooking classes
  • Prepare newsletter for mailing
  • Pick up and deliver items to the Professional Clothing Bank

Mission Central HUB

We are blessed to have a HUB of Mission Central, a mission program and warehouse located in Mechanicsburg, here at St. Paul's.  Through Mission Central various UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) kits are distributed for use around the world.

  • Join us on the third Wednesday from September through May to assemble kits
  • Set up a special session to assemble kits with your small group or class

Operation Christmas Child

This ministry delivers shoe-boxes packed with gifts to children around the world.  After receiving shoe-box gifts, children are invited to enroll in The Great Journey, their 12-hour discipleship program where children learn how to follow Christ and share their faith with others.

  • Deliver shoe-boxes to a collection center
  • Become a prayer network partner

Water Street Ministries

Water Street Ministries is located in Lancaster city.  Their work is with the poor, the homeless and those at risk of being homeless in the city by providing a safe and healing environment where the gospel of Christ is able to take hold of hearts and set them on a path of restoration.
