Six Degrees of Separation: Creation

Six Degrees of Separation: Creation

Oct 06, 2019

Passage: Romans 8:17-21

Preacher: Matthew Skillen

Series: Six Degrees of Separation

Category: Six Degrees of Separation

We begin a new message series called, “Six Degrees of Separation.” For the next six weeks, we are going to look at the Apostle Paul’s iconic Letter to the Romans—specifically, chapter 8. Throughout his letter, Paul looks at all of the ways humanity has lost its connection to the heart of God. He writes that because of what Jesus did on the Cross, there’s now nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Nothing. We are going to explore—in six different ways—how sin separates us and how Christ reunites us in relationship to God, with each other, and with all of creation.

Romans 8:17 (NIV) Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

As a child of God, we are called live as Christ and share in his glory.

Romans 8:19-20 (NIV) For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice but by the will of the one who subjected it…

Our sin not only affects us; it also affects everyone and everything around us.

Romans 8:21 (NIV) in hope that creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God (emphasis added)

Our salvation not only transforms us; it also transforms everyone and everything around us.
